Happy Birthday, Blog

You know, the time change has been kicking my behind this month. Last night I finally gave up and went to bed at 8:30, and this morning I feel like a superhero. Really, the sleep was that good!

Yesterday was Cosmic Driftwood’s birthday. I’ve been at this for one whole year. (As an interesting aside, yesterday was also the tenth birthday of the Eric Carle Museum. How do I know? I was there.)

Blogging is not something that comes naturally to me. As an unrepentant wallflower, I’m more comfortable listening to conversations than initiating them. The thought of a regular monologue freaked me out a little.

What I hadn’t factored in was all of you. You, the thoroughly awesome people who read my discussions of weather and turkeys and slow internet, and still come back again. That is a crazy and lovely thing.

As you may have noticed, the comments policy changed a few months back. Specifically, I allow commenting now. Thank you to Lydia, who very kindly made a case for that change. Had she not, I don’t think I would have reconsidered, and I definitely think it’s a change for the better.

And thanks to all of you who have communicated with me, either via comments or really awesome emails (they have all been really awesome, by the way). Last November, I wasn’t sure the blog thing would stick. I’m very glad it has.

Thank you! I have no balloons or cake to offer, just my heartfelt gratitude that you’ve taken the time to share this with me.

  1. Happy birthday to your blog! I’m so glad that allowing comments has worked out well for you. πŸ™‚

  2. Happy Blogsday! I’m so happy you’re enjoying the process. I wasn’t sure, either, when I started. When I found your blog, for a long, strange moment it felt like I’d found my own pages, but ones I’d forgotten I’d written. Except they had your name on them. How weird and wonderful is that?

    • I feel the same way, Mary. I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned my animal messengers here, but I have them too. It was a bit of a surreal experience to find the same in your blog. πŸ™‚
